Josephine began her hairdressing apprenticeship in Perth, Western Australia in 1993 where she worked up to management for seven years. Later moving to Sydney as Senior Stylist/Manager for salon ‘Imagine’ in fashion central Chatswood. After a visit to Melbourne in 2002, she fell in love with the city and moved there soon after.
Josephine began studying Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment at the reputable international private hair school Pivot Point Academy, whom later employed her as Tutor and Assessor. It wasn’t long before she was promoted to Salon Education Co Ordinator, which allowed her to focus on sharing her love of the art of hair with like minded people.
Eventually the call of Europe was too strong, moving to London she continued to teach and assess hairdressing at the school of Londons’ famous “Father of modern hairdressing training”, Joshua Galvin Academy. There, Josephine assessed apprentices for salons such as Harrods’ Urban Retreat and celebrity hairdresser, Richard Ward.
After eight years of living in busy cities, Josephine settled beach side in the beautiful south-west of WA working from her quaint, chic home hair studio situated in Busselton, where clients can relax to funky tunes and a ‘real coffee’ whilst being pampered.
With the growing amount of allergic reactions in clients using conventional colours becoming a concern, Josephine, trading as Sheer Organics, uses only professional organic hair colours that are not only ammonia-free but also PPD free. Paraphenylenediamine (PPD) is a chemical substance that is widely used in permanent hair colours. It is a colourless substance that requires oxygen for it to become coloured, and it is in this partially oxidised state that it can cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals. Reaction caused by the use of these colours may include reddening, itching and swelling and anaphylaxis.
Although her passion for organic colouring is still strong Josephine was inspired by the growing popularity of weddings in the south west, she began specialising in bridal party hairstyling. Being freelance gives Josephine the freedom to accommodate any bride and her party in either their own comfortable surroundings or if preferred, at the Busselton hair studio.
